Young directors helped my career: Mammootty

One of the most accomplished actors of India, Malayalam superstar Mammootty says he prefers to work with young debutant directors as they have helped his career.

"I am a little selfish in that respect. I have always worked with debutants and young directors because they will always come up with scripts with fresh concepts. They always come up with novel themes and this has helped me in getting variety of roles,” Mammootty said recently in an interview.

The actor is currently getting ready for his second Kannada film Shikari to be directed by Abhay Sinha. (Love was his first Kannada film in 2005.) Mammootty will play a double role: the first as a software techie and the second as a freedom fighter. The film is also being made in Malayalam.

Mammootty, who is writing the dialogues for the Malayalam version, said: "Karnataka and Kerala have a common cultural link through Yakshagana dance form. The people of the two states have maintained cordial relations. It was natural for me to have accepted a Kannada film sooner or later. I am glad Abhay Sinha brought me an exciting script."
